These covers were created to be used as digital assets within virtual environments.
Being an asset to be used to mimic the look and feel of an actual product, there was a decent amount of case study that went into these covers. It doesn't take much imagination to realize what these covers are trying to mimic.
National Geographic is known for its eye-catching colors and simple yet affective cover art. To mimic that here I used photos from my past photography projects - choosing the ones that best give that eye catching "wow" factor that National Geographic is known for. In the simplest terms possible - I choose photos which captured common things in an uncommon way.
The typography for these covers closely mimics that of National Geographic, but utilizes a slightly different font style and kerning (spacing). The typography needed to be simple, elegant, and clearly visible over a variety of photographic styles, yet retain a theme that could be easily recognized from one cover to the next. Choosing simple yet bold fonts and colors easily achieved this.
Format: Journal
Content: None as this was to mimic the exterior look of a well-known journal.
