Danny had a clear vision of what his ship was to look like. However, throughout the process, he left much of the final look and feel up to me.
Various aspects were addressed weekly to make sure the ship visually fit the idea he had for his ship. Mainly, it was to be "built quickly and pieced together" and have "a secondary deflector dish".
This "built quickly" look was most pronounced on the impulse engines. He wanted them to "look like an afterthought, and maybe look a little too big for the ship."
In the end, Danny was completely satisfied with his ship, and it was an incredible experience to help bring a long-time Star Trek fan's dream come true.
In early 2023 I was commissioned to create a non-canon starship for a long-time Star Trek fan. The client provided basic information about his ship, such as size, crew complement, purpose & role, etc.
From there we continued to correspond weekly to fine-tune the overall look. The result was a fan's dream come true - their own starship, the USS Kanati NCC-80801. This ship is currently being used in animations by the client for their homebrew Star Trek RPG.
